 YOUTH OF THE MONTH

COMING SOON!!!!!

Welcome

                                                      CLICK FOR UPCOMING EVENTS

We are so excited that you visited our site and hope that you find important information that can be of some benefit to you. HIV/AIDS and STD'S are on the rise among adolescents, and it is extremely important that we educate our youth on how to take charge of their health.

We have spent several years mobilizing communities and eliminating health disparities among at risk teens. We need your help in spreading the word that "education is better than a cure for all diseases." Project Youthlink's goal is to reach teens by any means necessary and we are proud to announce that our commitment is stronger than ever in reaching that goal.

HIV/AID's or sexually transmitted diseases don't discriminate, it does not matter how old you are, how smart you are, and definitely not how tough you are. The epidemic is infecting youth at a rate higher than any other age group in the country, (Check the fact sheet for more information).

We are hitting the streets and informing youth on how to protect themselves against sexually transmitted diseases and equipping them with the necessary information to stay healthy. I encourage you to get involved with your local community based organization and do something to reclaim our youth from these horrible epidemics.

Again, we hope this site was informative and look forward to you joining us in the struggle to reclaim our youth!

Sincerely,

Project Youthlink

STD statistics often show an unequal gender distribution, usually with more females infected than males.
Increasing numbers of chlamydia infections have made it the most widespread STD in the USA.

It is estimated that the true number of new chlamydia cases occurring each year is around 2.8 million, most of which are not diagnosed. Chlamydia screening and reporting are expected to continue to expand.

A study presented in 2008 revealed that around 26% of young American women aged 14-19 are infected with at least one of the four most common sexually transmitted infections.

around 48% of young African American women have an STD, compared to 20% of young white women.

that 2.5 million youth became infected with HIV-7,000 each day, or about five per minute.

that women become infected with HIV on average ten years earlier than men. In certain regions young women are two to six times more likely than young men to be infected.
